Want to see spooky Halloween decorations inside our home? Read below to see how I decorated our dining room and living room for Halloween.
Ok y’all, today we’re talking about my second favorite holiday (right after Christmas) and that is Halloween! I have always loved this amazing holiday. When I think of Halloween, I have nothing but amazing memories. And for me, it never really was about walking around and going from houses to house to collect as much candy as possible, no not for me. I loved walking around on Halloween night seeing everyone’s cool costumes. I loved seeing all of the decorations that people worked so hard to put up on their homes. My friends and I used to design, create, and showcase a full-on haunted house in my parent’s garage every year. We’re talking different themed rooms, moving props, lights, sound effects and even a control center! People came from all over our neighborhood to go through our haunted house. It was amazing!
There’s also this “Halloween feel” in the air throughout the whole month of October. There’s a crisp quality to the air, the wind blows softly, the changing leaves fall, and the crows caw, as if they know it’s their time of year (this is what I like to think hehe).
I guess it’s also the excitement of the holidays just around the corner and the weather getting cooler. Maybe it’s also the joy it brings me to see the first halloween decorations going up or the first pumpkins set out.
Anyways, as I mentioned above, one of my favorite things about Halloween is dressing up and, of course, decorating! I really love decorating the outdoors for Halloween but it’s also just as much fun to decorate indoors.
A great way to bring Halloween into your home is by decorating a space you spend a lot of time in, like the dining room, living room, and kitchen.
So, today I’m going to be showing you how I decorated the dining room and living room for Halloween.

Dining Room
Let’s start off with the dining room. It was so much fun creating this space with spooky halloween decorations. I wanted to work with a mostly black and white theme while adding in just a few pops of orange. To play up the black and white theme, I used my buffalo check table runner that I keep out most of the year. It goes se well with all my decor!
Also, if you see anything you like in this post, I will list what I can down at the bottom!
I knew I also wanted to project an eerie haunted forest feel in the dining room. To do that, I added in some spooky black trees! I love how they stand out against the light-colored walls.
Another way to achieve a haunted forest look was to add in some black birds! Honestly, these look great sprinkled all over the house to add in a little spook here and there. I also decided to tie a raven garland between the two trees on the dining table.
For the place settings, I wanted a lot of texture and layers. These chargers I actually found at the Dollar Tree, best find ever! The little chalkboard tags were also a Dollar Tree find. I decided on a spider web cut out for the very bottom, which I made on my cricut machine. And for some color and contrast, I topped it off with some sparkly pumpkins and a striped napkin.
These Halloween skull goblets are so fun! We’ve actually had these for such a long time and we would use them for Halloween parties. I think you can only find them on ebay now. But I really think they add a special something, don’t you?
One of my favorite parts of this design is the Hocus Pocus sign. I’m sure I’m not alone when I say that Hocus Pocus is and always will be my favorite Halloween movie. It’s a tradition to watch this movie on Halloween! So I thought it should be a part of my theme.
For the sign, I just used some good old-fashioned chalk and eye-balled the lettering.
For the center of the table, I placed some multi-colored pumpkins. I really wanted a big pop of orange, with the other pumpkins more neutral. I also wanted to play up the little pumpkins on the place settings.
Living Room
Now we’re going to move on to the living room. I wanted to keep the theme mostly the same, black and white with pops of orange.
Please kindly ignore the lovely ”sponged” wall around my fireplace… we will be tackling that project in the near future 😉.
Of course, what is Halloween without a scared black cat decoration? This one is less spooky and more cute, really, but he needed a spot somewhere in the living room. And he goes so nicely on the coffee table tray with the little pumpkin that I placed next to him.
On the hearth, I chose to keep the lantern the same, but I added in some new textures. I added some wheat to my faux birch logs and a big and beautiful white pumpkin.
I realize the little crow/owl bird with the pilgrim hat is more Thanksgiving, but I just thought it was so cute. We’ll just say it’s a witches hat!
As you can see, I like my signs and lettering and I just love the contrast that they provide.
This “Happy Halloween” banner is one that I’m particularly thrilled with and I made it on my Cricut. I just used different colored card stock and strung the pieces together with black satin ribbon. The letters are glued on with foam glue dots.
Also, I just had to add a cute Halloween sign to the mantel. This is one that I actually made. My husband is a wood-worker, so he’s always got plenty of scrap wood in the garage. So I just went in and foraged around for a thin piece of plywood and some pieces for the trim.
I needed to cut my trim pieces to size and miter the ends. Now, I’m no wood worker, but I know how to use a saw or two. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the miter saw to turn on….. and hubby was at work so… out came the jig saw. That was no easy feat, I tell ya. So, needless to say, my miters came out kinda rough haha.
I also couldn’t be bothered with trying to get a hold of a nail gun, so to save time, I hot glued my frame together and also hot glued the frame to my board. I spray painted the frame black and called it a day. The design itself I hand painted and that part actually took quite a bit of time.
Another one of my favorites is my Halloween owl! I think he looks so majestic sitting on the mantel and brings just the right amount of spook to my spooky halloween decorations.
Last but not least, I had to add in some pumpkins for that wonderful pop of orange.
- spooky trees (mine are from Homegoods)
- pumpkins
- black birds
- mini pumpkins
- striped napkins
- table runner
- wheat
- jack-o-lantern
- orange and white pumpkins
- large white pumpkin
- owl– closest one I could find
- whitewash lantern
- black flame pillow cover
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays and I get so excited when it comes time to decorate! It was so much fun to liven up my living room and dining room with spooky halloween decorations.
