Would you like some awesome Halloween front yard decoration ideas? This post is all bout how to decorate the front yard for Halloween.
Halloween is just around the corner folks! I can’t wait!
Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. There are many reasons why I love this holiday, but mostly because of the spooky halloween decorations. There are so many fun ways to dress up the front yard for Halloween!
Below I have a list of 11 spooky halloween front yard decoration ideas:
1. Spider webs galore
I think it’s so neat to see a house with LOTs of spider webs. It’s so festive! This is actually my parent’s old house and we went a little crazy with the spider web. We wanted it to be the main focal point of the porch. We used large pieces of screen, on which we drew the lines for the webs with white paint markers. We also used regular spider web that you see in all the stores for Halloween, and lastly we made spider egg sacks with cotton and white stockings.
2. Put those jack-o-lanterns on display!
I love carving pumpkins for Halloween, it is such a fun tradition! And after we have taken the time to carefully carve our designs, it brings me joy to display them out front for the neighborhood to see.
I love using these flameless tea lights inside the pumpkins!
3. Feature a pumpkin patch
Jack-o-lanterns are fabulous but pumpkins are just as great for Halloween decorations. Get a bunch of all shapes and sizes, throw in some hay, and create a cute little pumpkin patch.
You can use real pumpkins or fake pumpkins. I personally think they have awesome fake pumpkins at Hobby Lobby and Michaels.
4. Add some crawling spiders
Now this is our current home and we have spiders crawling all over the place! I think spiders are essential for creating that spooky Halloween look. Add in spiders of all sizes to mix it up a bit. I found these spiders on amazon, they are perfect!
I used this double-back sticky tape to stick these guys to the stucco and it worked out really well. And when I removed them, no stucco came off!
5. Awesome lighting
Lighting, lighting, lighting!
Lighting is crucial in creating your spooky halloween yard. We used a lot of blues in the front to project on Jack and Zero, to emit a “cold” ghostly glow. They are actually solar powered yard lights, of which you can change the colors. I found them on Amazon!
We had lights projected on the bushes and also shining up onto the trees. I used different colored gels to change the color of the lights.
We also strung these patio lights across the garage and these changed colors every few seconds from blue, to green, to red, and to purple.
Another one of my favorite features is the flickering flameless tea lights that we placed inside hanging lanterns. Oh and I found this awesome porch light that also flickers and looks like a flaming torch!
Lastly, we lined our pathway with these purple and orange string lights. We used stakes with hooks to elevate them off of the ground.
Down below is my parent’s old house again. Here is a great night shot and this shows just how much that lighting really makes a difference. We also had a fog machine going, which creates a really eerie effect when mixed with lights.
6. Creepy Graves
Another one of the classic Halloween front yard decoration ideas is graves or gravestones. Here we mostly used the foam graves that we purchased from different stores. There are also some great graves online! The brown crosses were actually made out of foam board and then painted brown.
Then of course we sprinkled leaves around the graves, as though they are “unkept”. A few skulls were also sprinkled in, as well as some black lanterns from Ikea.
The graves below are actually from The Dollar Tree. They of course don’t last forever, but they do a good job! Again, we surrounded the graves with black lanterns, but this time we hung them on shepherds hooks.
7. Nightmare Before Christmas Characters
One of my favorite Halloween movies is of course The Nightmare Before Christmas, so I am thrilled to have these guys out in my front yard for Halloween! You can find them here.
Now, they are rather floppy, so in order to get them to stand, I hung them on shepherds hooks that I stuck in the ground. I also didn’t want them spinning or giving their backs to the audience, so I tied monofilament line from them to the shepherds hooks, to prevent this. I also put stakes in Jack’s legs to make it look like he’s standing, not floating.
8. Throw in some birds
Does anybody else notice, that around Halloween time the crows are more active? I definitely feel this way! And of course, whenever you see a graveyard scene in a movie, there are always crows either shuffling along the ground or sitting on top of the headstones. Crows are synonymous with Halloween. Therefore, they are another perfect element in our Halloween front yard decorations.
These bird silhouettes were cut out of black foam. Some of them we placed on long sticks that we stuck into the ground, some were hung or perched on the rails, and some birds were stuck onto the walls.
We used this double-back sticky tape to stick them to the walls.
9. Use tree branches
Lastly, we used tree branches that we found lying around and stuck them in the ground. I just think it creates this eerie, haunted woods feel. This is a great option if you’re on a budget because branches don’t cost a thing!
And that concludes the Halloween front yard decoration ideas. Hopefully, you found this helpful and got some ideas for your Halloween decor this year.
