If your holiday style leans neutral with a little glam, this is tour is for you. I’m walking you through my full Elegant Christmas Decor this year and sharing what I used, how I styled it, and the exact design choices that keep everything refined without feeling stiff.
Every year I say I’m going to “keep it simple,” and every year I end up creating a whole tiny world out of garland, glass, and twinkle lights. This season I finally cracked the code: a calm, frosty palette with just a few scene-stealing moments that make the house feel like a winter fairytale—but still edited and intentional so it’s not visual chaos. Think soft greens, winter whites, a little mercury glass glow, and natural texture. It’s cozy without feeling heavy, and festive without shouting. Magical and elegant Christmas decor.

The Mantel: Elegant Christmas Decor Ideas
Let’s start with the heart of it all: the mantel. I anchored the scene with an arched mirror that doubles the light and instantly makes everything feel more open. Over the mirror I hung a lush evergreen wreath with the same colors that tie into the mantel and garland below.
On the mantel itself sits my favorite little moment: a tiny village, consisting of both ceramic and galvanized steel houses, tucked between two white feathered trees on either end and bottle-brush trees are sprinkled in. This is where the whimsy peeks in. The trees flanking the houses give me that classic, balanced silhouette I love. Then on the hearth, I added a snowy owl (truly the tiniest bit mischievous). The owl’s soft texture breaks up all the glass and greenery, and its creamy color ties right back to the candles and the knit textiles in the room.

The Garland: A mix of Greenery
For my garland, I used a few different layers to achieve my desired look. The base I used was a faux noble fir garland, then I added a cedar garland on top, and lastly I layered in frosted eucalyptus. I also added extra stems of cedar and eucalyptus on each end to create the shape I had intended and keep the fullness at the ends. Antique brass bells hang on either side, to add some shine to the arrangement. I LOVE the beaded garland that I found to swag under the garland, because the colors are perfect for my display! To finish off the garland, I embellished even further with a string of aged silver bells.

Elegant Christmas Decor for the Coffee Table
I started with a tray of warm wood tones and metal handles. I just love the scalloped texture of this tray because it really adds to the interest of the design. Layered on the tray, I placed a trio brass candle sticks at varying heights, with flameless candles of course! I used these flameless candles. Then, to add some sparkle and warmth, a pair of glistening gold wood chip trees at two different heights.

My King of Christmas Tree: Elegant & Magical
The absolute star of the show is my 9 foot flocked King of Christmas tree! I’ve had this tree for 6 years and it is still going strong! This tree is unbelievably full and realistic. The lights are bright, yet warm and they DO NOT hurt my sensitive eyes. I got the slim and it’s the perfect size for my space. It’s a full tree but without being super wide and impeding upon the pathway. It is super easy to set it up, the tree comes in three sections that just snap into each other, you give it a fluff and it’s ready! I have a full review of my Christmas tree that you can read all about here.

The Christmas tree follows the same palette as the mantel so the whole room reads as one cohesive design. I always start with the biggest ball ornaments and then slowly start to fill in with the smaller ball ornaments. Once I have the base ornaments on the tree, basically the theme/color of the tree, our special family ornaments will take take their precious places on the tree. Also, in case you couldn’t tell, I LOVE owls, so naturally the Christmas tree is filled with fluffy owls.

Also, please take note of this amazing silvery nutcracker that stands guard next to the tree. He was a CVS find! The most amazing find of the season for sure! Here’s one thats similar: Large Nutcracker.

A great tip that makes a huge difference: cluster ornaments in twos and threes. I like to grab some floral wire and thread it through three ornaments, twist it around to secure the cluster and then anchor it in the tree where it looks sparse.

Adding Elegant Christmas Decor to the Piano
Opposite the tree, I kept the piano scene intentionally simple so the room can breathe. A trailing garland, similar to the mantel, sweeps up the banister. Various trees of different heights are spread across the surface with two nutcrackers on either end. And yes! These are the miniature versions of the large nutcracker next to the tree, I just love them!

The Dining Room: An Elegant Gingerbread display
Next to the living room, I kept the hutch styling simple and textural—Gingerbread houses of course! And a couple of trees that echo the mantel’s silhouette. When you repeat key elements across the room (trees, houses, candles), your eye connects the dots and the space feels cohesive.

I LOVE these gingerbread houses! I went to Homegoods every weekend with my daughter to find them! I think they are perfect for filling this small space and they really add to the warm magical Christmas feel.
The dining table is next in our elegant Christmas decor tour. I didn’t want the centerpiece to overpower, so I made the arrangement fairly simple: All white trees, in various textures and heights. The feathered trees are my favorites! They just feel so cozy and winter wonderland like. An ivory colored, quilted table runner anchors the arrangement and I finished off the setting with woven table mats and scalloped chargers.

Color Palette and Materials: My Keep-It-Cohesive Formula
If you’re curious about the backbone of this look, here’s my simple palette:

Greens: Cedar, Eucalyptus, and pines
Neutrals: Cream, soft white, and oatmeal with pops of soft blues and greens
Metallics: A mix of silver, antique brass, and gold—yes, mixing metals is allowed and lovely when one is dominant (mine leans silver/mercury).
Textures: Wood grains, matte ceramic, feathers, mixed metals and mercury glass.
I chose an icy yet serene palette and repeated that palette throughout my home for that cohesive and collected vibe. The variety comes from texture and scale, not color. That’s the trick to this particular look: keep the color calm and let the materials do the talking.
Styling the Little Details
- Candles: I mix warm scented candles with flameless pillars and tapered candles sprinkled throughout. The warm glow of these candles creates the most amazing cozy feel.
- Ribbon: Velvet for elegance, chiffon for romance. If your mantel feels stiff, a ribbon tail instantly adds movement.
- Garland depth: Layer two different faux garlands rather than one expensive one. Slightly different needle types make the overall look more believable and provides more dimension.
- Owls/Animals: One or two pieces, maybe five or 10! They work like exclamation points—fun and unique, but still cozy and elegant.

Night vs. Day: Living with the Elegant Christmas Decor
By day, the whites and greens feel fresh and crisp. By night, the mercury glass and fairy lights turn the room into this calm, glowy cocoon. I love sitting with the main lights off and just letting the tree and mantel do their thing. The mirror doubles that glow (a happy accident I will now pretend was planned), and the village houses look like tiny lanterns. That’s the magic of glass + light—instant ambiance.
Elegant Christmas Decor, In a Nutshell
Elegant Christmas decor is achieved when you simply decide on a palette, repeat materials throughout the home, and let lighting and texture carry the mood. My home feels magical and festive, yet elegant: the mantel’s tiny village glows, the tree has that deep, layered sparkle, and every vignette shares the same language without shouting for attention.
If you recreate any of these ideas, post a photo in comments below—I want to see your villages, your ribbon tails, and your take on this palette. And if you want more, I’ve got posts planned on mantel formulas, more holiday inspo, and vignette styling for small spaces (I’ll link them here once they’re live).
And there you have it! That’s the end of my elegant Christmas decor tour. Here’s to an elegant season that feels like a gentle snowfall: soft, glowing, and magical.
