In this post, I will show you how to decorate around a fireplace using various materials, objects, and textures.
Today we’re going to talk about how to decorate around a fireplace for everyday.
I LOVE fireplaces! And I think it can be so much fun to decorate them. Especially for the holidays! But today we are focusing on decor that works for all year round.
The fireplace is like the center of the living room, and one of the main focal points in the home. Well-placed decor truly enhances and highlights your focal point, in this case, the fireplace.
There are many different ways to decorate around a fireplace, but I’m going to talk about the 5 essential elements that are used to decorate a fireplace.

How to Decorate Around a Fireplace:
1. Create a focal point
The first element that is needed in decorating your fireplace is a large decor item that will rest on your mantel or hang above it. The idea is to add something to your fireplace that stands out and draws the eyes in.
Something that is larger than anything else that is placed around the fireplace. It should take up some space. It will basically be one of the first things you see when you enter the room.
For example, a large framed mirror or framed art piece sitting on the mantel would do the trick. You could also do an old vintage window frame.
Also, if you have a higher ceiling, consider using a mirror/piece of art that is taller. The taller focal point will fill up more space. This will draw the eyes upward.
Here are some examples:
2. Create some depth with objects of varying heights
Secondly, it is a great idea to add in some objects that vary in height. The differences in height offer more interest than if every piece was at the same level. This arrangement allows for visual movement as well.
Decor items that work really well for adding in different heights are candles and candle holders. Depending on your overall decor style, you could use some thin metal candle stick holders or choose the turned wood pillar candle holders.
Whichever style candle holder you choose, make sure they are different heights. And you could arrange them in different ways.
There are also other decor items you can use to create your height differences, like pretty signs, plants, and vases. Which leads me to my next tip…
3. Add plants or florals
A well placed greenery or floral arrangement can go a long way in completing your overall fireplace look. And there are so many ways you can add this element into your design.
In a vase
Add some lovely floral stems to a fresh white vase to add in some “brightness”, if you will. But you can also opt for some faux eucalyptus, lambs ear, or boxwood. And those are just a few options, but there are many different types of stems you could use.
Garlands
Another way of incorporating greenery into the whole fireplace look is by draping a beautiful garland across the mantel. Allow a little to hang over the edge for a more natural look.
Potted plants
Placing a potted plant down on the hearth can be perfect too! Get some faux greenery and place them in your favorite pot or display a living house plant.
Add a wreath
Another great way to draw attention to your main focal point is adding a wreath. This works perfectly if you have either a mirror or window on the mantel. The wreath adds some more greenery and can also soften the look of the framed piece. Having the wreath hanging over the mirror (or what have you) also creates a layered look, which provides awesome dimension!

4. Embrace a pretty lantern
Now we need to add some decor down on the hearth. A beautiful lantern can be set on the hearth to add some weight to the overall fireplace display. If you have all of the decor on the mantel, it can all look a bit top heavy.
Lanterns are great because you can put a flameless candle inside and it will create a nice glow for the evenings. I love the feel lanterns create in the home! It almost makes me think of being outdoors, like you’re camping…but maybe that’s just me!
5. Throw in a basket and a throw
Lastly, it’s always nice to place a beautiful, textured basket. And to complete the look, toss a throw or some pillows into the basket and this will bring about all the cozy vibes.
Conclusion
